The system for drawing melt spun multifilaments (14) has a powered take-off godet roller (17) at the take-off unit (15) where the multifilaments pass round a number of times, followed by a drawing godet roller (19) at the drawing godet unit (16) where the filaments pass round a number of times. The speed difference between the powered godet rollers (17, 19) applies a drawing action on the multifilaments (14). The take-off (17) and/or drawing (19) godet rollers each have a number of axially successive surface zones (30-32, 35-37) of a different surface roughness (R1-R6). An Independent claim is included for the drawing action on the multifilaments, where the filaments pass round smooth surfaces at the entry to the take-off godet and drawing godet to give no relative movements between the filaments and the godet surfaces.
