A shoulder prosthesis having a head (212) and an elongate stem portion (218) including a proximal end connected to the head, a distal section for insertion into a medullary canal of a humeral bone. The head (212) and stem (218) are connected via a conical taper lock including male and female portions (222, 226) disposed on the stem and head respectively. The portion of the taper lock situated on the stem is offset to provide adjustment for a left or right shoulder prosthesis. An alignment section (not shown) may be disposed between the proximal end and distal section, which includes a plurality of reference marks positioned to facilitate placement of the prosthesis in the bone at a previously determined position. In an alternative embodiment, the taper lock may comprise a tapered wedge (Fig 1; not shown). A shoulder prosthesis kit is also claimed. |
