PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device using an easy-to-see illumination device for suppressing unrequired reflected light and the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: For this reflection type liquid crystal display device, a light source 1, a transparent plate 3 for taking in light from the light source 1 from a side face and emitting illumination light from a lower surface and a reflection type liquid crystal panel on the lower surface side of the transparent plate 3 are arranged. In this case, by executing at least one of a reflection preventing processing or a diffusing surface making processing to the lower surface 32 of the transparent plate 3 and the reflection type liquid crystal panel, the reflected light from the transparent plate lower surface and the reflected light from the surface of the reflection type liquid crystal panel are reduced and easy-to-see display is obtained.
