PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic film suitable for the use of optical media. SOLUTION: This method for producing a textured thermoplastic film comprises producing a polycarbonate film having a textured surface and a glossed surface, coating the textured surface of the film with a curable coating and subsequently curing the coated coating to form a smooth surface. The coated film has a low birefringence and a high light transmittance by selecting the coating so that the refractive index of the coating is harmonized with that of the substrate. The polycarbonate film having the textured surface and the glossed surface is produced by passing a thermoplastic film substrate through a nip 26 between a metal roll and a roll covered with a smooth low frictional material such as PTFE. |
