<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of fixing an unfixed toner image on a base substance, of expanding the range of an operating condition without the occurrence of an offset and of applying a desired gloss in a single device. SOLUTION: A base substance 40 for carrying an unfixed toner image 42 is fed through a contact area Z1 which is continuously extended from an entrance 16 to an exit 18. This area is demarcated by pressure contact in a state where an endless surface 12 is opposed to a reaction surface 14. The endless surface 12 adjacent to the entrance 16 is heated to a temperature high enough to decrease the viscosity of toner to a value smaller than 50 Pa.s. The endless surface 12 is forcibly cooled to a temperature lower than the glass transition point Tg of the toner at a middle part between the entrance 16 and the exit 18.</p> |
