PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of powdery clay and to permit the long-term preservation thereof by incorporatingα-starch, heavy calcium carbonate and cellulose powder into the clay. SOLUTION: Theα-starch, the heavy calcium carbonate and the cellulose are mingled in suitable amts. with each other and in some cases, the necessary amts. of powder pigment, antiseptic, etc., are added to the mixture with thorough agitation, by which the powdery clay is formed. At the time of using the powdery clay, a suitable volume of water is added to the clay and is used in the form of clay by thoroughly mixing the same. Theα-starch made from wheat starch or corn starch is more preferable. The heavy calcium carbonate is the white powder prepd. by removing the colored portions of limestone and subjecting the limestone to pulverizing and classifying and is also known as stone powder. The cellulose powder is prepd. by pulverizing timber cellulose by an acid hydrolysis treatment or mechanical treatment.
