An information processing apparatus adaptable to a wireless network using infrared beams. A transmission frequency band of higher than 6MHz is used for compatibility with signal transmission devices such as infrared remote control devices that have recently spread to many homes. Two channels are provided, that is, a low-frequency band (B1) and a high-frequency band (B2). If one of the channels is not enough, then another channel is used and thus high speed and flexibility are obtained in communication. Time slots of the same timing, included in both two series of time slots corresponding to the two channels, are used to reduce transmission time, buffer occupation, and power consumption.
