<p>Aqueous polymer dispersions (I), containing a radical copolymer (CP) with an alkali metal ion content (GA) of not more than 0.5 wt.%, based on (A) 20-65 wt.% vinylaromatic monomer(s), (B) 35-80 wt.% comonomer(s) with two conjugated double bonds and (C) 0-10 wt.% other comonomers with at least one double bond. Also claimed are (i) aqueous polymer preparations containing (I) and finely divided pigment in amounts of up to 60 vol.% (IIA) or 20-45 vol.% (IIB); (ii) substrates coated with a film of (I) or (II), and (iii) a process for the production of (I) by radical- initiated aqueous emulsion polymerisation of the above comonomers, with the addition of ammonia and/or organic amine to increase the pH of the dispersion medium.</p> |
