A porous ceramic sinter having a specific gravity of 0.3 g/cm3 or smaller which is formed from a raw ceramic material loaded with particulate materials which burn in a baking step to form voids. The particulate materials consist of at least two particulate materials differing in average particle diameter. Especially desirable is a combination of a large particulate material having an average particle diameter of 2.0 to 3.5 mm, a medium one having an average particle diameter of 0.8 to 2.5 mm, and a small one having an average particle diameter of 0.06 to 0.15 mm. The process enables the production of a porous object having a reduced weight while maintaining its strength.
|
