Fibre optical cable with lateral diffusion of light

The cable has a clear sleeve enabling diffusion of light from fiber. The cable comprises one or more identical strands (10). Each strand is made up from three or four elementary fibers. These may have individual diameters of the order of 1mm, and may be twisted together. The relationship between the step of the twist of the strand and its diameter determines the nature of the result produced: a ratio of between 10:1 and 16:1 is preferred. The overall structure may consist of seven strands, with six being arranged symmetrically around on central strand. These are then contained within a single outer transparent sleeve.
