PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault detector which can easily detect faults in the optical interface between information processors. SOLUTION: A fault detector is constituted of a transmitting section 110 provided with a transmission buffer 118 which stores the data transmitted from an information processor 101, an insertion control section 112 which controls the insertion of an operating state reporting pattern and the switching of a selector 116 in accordance with an inserting interval instruction 118 from the information processor 101, the selector 116 which selects the transmission data or reporting pattern, and an electrooptical converting section 121 which sends the selected data from the selector 116 to an optical fiber 120 after converting the data into optical signals and a receiving section 111 provided with a photoelectric converting section 125 which converts the data received through an optical fiber 123 into electric signals from optical signals, a reception buffer 115 which stores the received data, and a reception diagnostic section 113 which diagnoses the error of the operating station reporting pattern. Therefore, the detector can easily discriminate the continuation of transmission and reception from the operating state reporting pattern. |
