PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial, antifungal composition, capable of controlling contamination of industrial materials and products with microorganisms (e.g., mold), preventing microorganism-caused deterioration of materials and product qualities, and thereby keeping their outer appearance. SOLUTION: This composition is composed of an antimicrobial, antifungal substance sparingly soluble in water and clathrate compound of a cyclodextrin. The antimicrobial, antifungal substances include bis(2-pyridylthio-1-oxide) zinc, 1-[diiodomethyl]sulfonyl]-4-methylbenzene, 4,5-dichloro-2-n-octylisothiazolin-3-on, N-n-butyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-on,α-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)ethyl]-α-(1,1- dimethylethyl)1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-ethanol, and hinokitiol. The cyclodextrins useful for the present invention include maltosyl-α,β,γ-cyclodextrin, methyl-α,β,γ- cyclodextrin, and hydroxypropyl-α,β,γ-cyclodextrin.
