5-(heterocyclic alkyl)-6-aryl-dihydropyrimidines

This invention is directed to dihydropyrimidine compounds which are selective antagonists for human alpha 1C receptors and which have the structure: wherein A is aryl; R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl or heteroalkyl; R4 is heterocyclic alkyl; and X is S, O or NR3. This invention also relates to use of these compounds for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and other diseases where antagonism of the human alpha 1C receptor is useful. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising a therapeutically effective amount of such a compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
