PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent which can adsorb carbon monoxide efficiently and moreover has a high stability in the air. SOLUTION: The adsorbent adsorbs carbon monoxide and is prepared by heat-treating a mixture of 10-35 mass % of copper chloride, 1-40 mass % of a compound comprising at least one kind of compound (hereinafter referred to as selected compound) selected from the group consisting of an iron compound, a manganese compound, and a tin compound, and the remainder, i.e., an inorganic carrier at a temperature of 100-400 deg.C in a reducing gas or inert gas atmosphere.
