The present invention may be used for disinfecting and preserving drinkable water during the maritime, aerial or terrestrial transport thereof as well in vessels used for said transport, in swimming pools, in the production of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage and in other branches of the agriculture. This invention essentially relates to a plant for processing water using silver ions, wherein said plant comprises the following members: an electrolyser with silver electrodes; a direct-current power source for supplying the electrolyser and comprising an electrode polarity switch; a water volumetric flow-rate sensor which is connected to the direct-current power supply whose output is stabilised; and a pipe system for supplying and discharging the water. The plant of the present invention also includes a current correction unit which is connected to the electrolyser and to an automatic electrolysis-current regulator as well as a flow-meter mounted at the outlet of the pipe system. The plant further includes an emergency stop device. This invention can be used for maintaining the value of the electrolysis current which is compensated according to the variation in the geometrical parameters of the silver electrodes as they wear off during the electrolysis process.
