The lock bolt (1) is held closed by a catch (20) actuated by an electric motor (40), and engages in a striker fitted to the body of the vehicle. The motor is operated in two phases. In the first phase the motor releases the bolt then stops. The second phase occurs after the bolt has been manually disengaged from the striker, which allows the motor to return to its original position.
