REINFORCED EXPANDABLE ARTISTS' STRETCHER

Reinforced expandable artists' stretcher (1) comprising reinforcement members (15) in the form of diagonal braces (15) whose tenon-like ends (16) slidably engage mortises (10) provided for in the stretcher strips (2 to 5). Said mortises (10) are dimensioned such that they simultaneously form a housing slot for housing a wedge (13, 13A). A continuous bearing between abutment oblique surfaces (17) of said diagonal braces (15) and the adjacent side of the associated stretcher strip (2; 3; 4; 5) is obtained. Preferably said diagonal braces (15) have a standard length.
