A workpiece indexing and clamping system (10) for machining the workpiece (16). Spherical or narrow cylindrical heads (62) of index pins (38, 40, 42) extend from holes in a base plate (20) into workpiece holes (44) to align and index the workpiece. The pin portions in the base plate holes can be expanded to lock them to the base plate (20). Each pin has relief flats (49) parallel to the pin axis. Clamps (18) engage workpiece edges with thread-like angled grooves (66) on a cam surface to force workpiece edges against the base plate during machining of the workpiece. A central clamp (58) has a pin extending from the base plate into a workpiece hole. Angled grooves (66) in a cam surface are brought into contact with the hole sides to force the workpiece toward the base plate (20) and hold the central area in place during machining.
