The printer includes a print beam (14) proceeding crosswise to the transport path of the record carrier, and a ribbon cassette (34) proceeding over the entire length of the print beam, for accommodating and transporting an endless colour ribbon (36). The ribbon cassette comprises two redirection elements (38 and 40) arranged at its opposite ends, between which a ribbon section (36a) proceeds outside the ribbon cassette. A printing arrangement (20) is arranged between the print beam and the ribbon cassette, and is movable parallel to the print beam. The printing arrangement includes a print head (30) for imprinting the record carrier and a guide arrangement (46) which guides a section (36b) of the ribbon along the print head. The ribbon section proceeding outside the cassette lies behind the printing arrangement, close to the ribbon cassette, as seen from the print beam. A casing (60) for the guide arrangement is provided in the printing arrangement, in which the section of the ribbon is led. The casing has an aperture (64) in front of the print head, facing the print beam, which exposes the section of the ribbon for printing. |
