The present invention relates to a method of cleaning and sterilizing dental equipment (80), which is intended to be introduced into the oral cavity of a patient, and which has an external surface and an internal channel defined by an internal surface, said method comprising a first step wherein the internal surface is affected by steam at such a temperature that the internal surface is sterilized. The invention is novel by an additional step wherein the external surface is affected by a relatively concentrated jet of steam at such a temperature that the external surface is sterilized, while a mechanical treatment of the external surface is performed by a brush-like means. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the method. |
