An axial drive flange (115) has radial projecting, outwardly tapering tongues (116), each provided with at least one radially extending tooth (20) , and separated by D-shaped gaps (188).The taper ratio for the inner and outer width of the tongues is 0.5-1.2, preferably 0.8; the corresponding width to strength ratio, for the tongue construction, is 5-30, and preferably 10. The localized curved portion (184;186) has 1.0 -1.5 times the material strength of the tongues. The tooth edge surfaces (48) are inclined at an angle 10-50 deg to the tooth central plane, and preferably 20-30 deg . The material of construction ,at least in the region of the tongue assembly , may be a fibre reinforced composition, spring steel , or steel plate. The patent specification includes a number of claims of DE19848252-A1. An Independent claim is included for a process for production of a toothed driver (23;115) by stamping or cutting steel blanks, forming the axial extensions (17;116), and forming the teeth (20), either before or after the tongue machining is completed, by broaching or bevelling the the inclined side faces (48) and outer face (49), or by milling. |
