A vacuum cleaner has a self-spooling cable drum (3) built into the accommodation chamber (2) designed in the vacuum cleaner housing (1) and an insert part (6) having an opening for the cable that can be wound up on the drum. The insert part is designed as a bridging part between two bounding walls (4, 5) of the accommodation chamber. It is provided with a retaining element that can be connected to the fixed part of the cable drum. The fixed part is furthermore held at another position in the accommodation chamber. The bridging part is connected by plug connection to the corresponding bounding walls of the vacuum cleaner housing.
