<p>A supercharger system that includes a very high speed hydraulic turbine drive driving a compressor (62) for supplying compressed air to an internal combustion engine (68). Pressurized hydraulic fluid for driving a supercharger hydraulic turbine (61) is provided by at least one pump (81) driven by the engine shaft. A hydraulic fluid control system is provided to match compressed air flow with engine needs. In a preferred embodiment the hydraulic fluid control system comprises two pumps, a first pump with a relatively high displacement and a second pump with a relatively low displacement. A controller controls the bypass valve on both pumps to provide the needed hydraulic fluid flow to the turbine drive so as to closely match engine intake air needs.</p> |
