PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the field angle from becoming narrow owing to louver effect. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with nearly parallel discharging electrodes 12 which are formed of conductors, a back substrate 11 having a barrier rib 13 for isolating a discharge space almost in parallel to the discharging electrodes 12, a dielectric sheet 14 which is arranged on the barrier rib 13 and formed of an insulator, gas charged in the discharge space surrounded with the back substrate 11, dielectric sheet 14, and barrier rib 13, a front substrate 17 which has data electrodes 16 formed of conductors almost at right angles to the discharging electrodes 12, and an electrooptic medium 15 which is injected into the space between the front substrate 17 and dielectric sheet 14 and surrounded with the seal material and is formed principally of liquid crystal, and the barrier rib 13 is formed of a transparent material. Thus, the transparent material is used for the partition wall 13 and the field angle can be prevented from becoming narrow owing to lourver effect. |
