PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain satisfactory print output even in case proper development bias cannot be set by image-density adjustment control. SOLUTION: Whether the estimation of an optimum development-bias corresponding to a target density is possible or not is checked, and in the case the development bias can be estimated, the optimum development-bias is stored in a memory 34. In the case the optimum development-bias cannot be estimated, information indicative of an error is stored in the memory 34. The above operation is performed for magenta, cyan, yellow, and black each. When the development biases can be determined for all the colors, a full-color print mode, which is normal, can be ready, and conversely when the number of colors indicative of errors are three or less, a print mode with limited colors can be ready, and information representing each case is shown on an external part by a display circuit 32 or a host computer 35 is informed of it, and the operation is terminated. |
