PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten necessary starting time in a stepping motor controller using an encoder. SOLUTION: An angular position detecting means 4 is fitted, and a forced driving means 5 and a driving pattern generating means 3 are also fitted so that a sequence may vary with the angular position of a rotor 29 before starting detected by the angular position detecting means 4, by which direct starting can be conducted without previous movement to an angular position for starting, from an arbitrary angular position. It is thus possible to shorten necessary starting time.
