Reducing chlorophyll content in oilseeds

Reducing the chlorophyll content in oil plant seeds e.g. rape seeds comprises expressing antisense genes to chlorophyll expression. Independent claims are included for: (1) reducing the chlorophyll (I) content in oilplant seeds by: (a) integrating into the genome of a plant cell an expression vector containing a sequence (II) antisense to the sequence encoding an enzyme involved in the synthesis of (I), and (b) regenerating the cells to transgenic plants which are optionally propagated, where the expression vector comprises: (i) a plant-functional, preferably seed-specific, promoter; (ii) at least one (II) coupled to the promoter at its 3'-end, and (iii) optionally at the 5'-end of (I) a signal for terminating transcription and for adding a polyA tail, and (2) transgenic plant seed with reduced chlorophyll content relative to wild-type seed, produced this way.
