The method involves passing the fibre by an optical measurement system as individual fibres. The single fibres are optically detected in two projection planes. The fibre projection is detected in each plane and its true length derived from this. The two projection planes are essentially mutually perpendicular. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for measuring fibre lengths.
