THERMOSETTING POLYCARBOSILANE COMPOSITION AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting polycarbosilane compsn. which can give high-quality silicon carbide fibers which are nonporous even when baked directly while dispensing with the step of making them nonfusible in a process for producing silicon carbide fibers from polycarbosilane. SOLUTION: This thermosetting polycarbosilane compsn. comprises a compatible mixture of polycarbosilane and a thermosetting resin and is prepd. by mixing an org. solvent soln. of polycarbosilane with an org. solvent soln. of a thermosetting resin in a wt. ratio of polycarbosilane to the resin of (2:8)-(5:5) and heating the resultant mixture to remove the solvent by evaporation and to cure the mixture.
