METAL MOLD OPENING/CLOSING MECHANISM FOR I.S. MACHINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide opening/closing mechanisms for metal molds for an I.S. machine which isolate metal mold supports from the entire torsional force. SOLUTION: The opening/closing mechanisms for the metal molds for the I.S. machine have a pair of opposite metal mold supporting mechanisms for holding the side parts of at least a pair of the opposite metal molds. Each metal mold supporting mechanism has a yoke having a first perpendicular hole and a second horizontal hole. The metal molds are held by the upper yoke and an insert 24. This insert has a hole which extends in a perpendicular direction through the insert. An insert carrier 30 is displaceable rectilinearly between retraction positions and advance positions. The insert and the yoke are fixed to the carrier by a first pin extending slidably in a perpendicular direction through the perpendicular holes formed at the insert and the yoke and the perpendicular hole of the carrier. A second pin extends slidably through the horizontal hole of the yoke and a drive assembly is connected to this second pin.
