An instrument for accurately measuring the amount of salt in a bone, comprising a point source of X-rays/ gamma -rays by using a predetermined amount of radioactive isotope, a measuring function for measuring the transmission factor of characteristic X- or gamma -rays transmitted through a living body at a desired position by measuring the numbers and energy values of the characteristic X- or gamma -rays from the source or through the living body and by finding the transmission paths in the living body, and a calculation function for calculating the amount of salt in a bone based upon the transmission factor measured by the measuring function.
