Magneto-impedance effect device has a magnetic material 13 that has magneto-impedance effect on one principal surface of a board 12 made of a electrically insulating material and has a conductor pattern 34 for applying a bias magnetic field to the magnetic material 13 on the other principal surface of the board 12 oppositely to the magnetic material 13 with the board 12 interposed between them. The magnetic material 13 is arranged on the board 12 approximately perpendicularly to the direction of a current that flows through the conductor pattern 34. To the magnetic material 13 is applied an AC voltage, and the change in impedance of the magnetic material 13 due to an external magnetic field Hb is taken out of both ends of the magnetic material 13.
