<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate an accurate pitch angle by correctly setting a car height initial value by setting the output of car height detecting means in two positions respectively to car height initial values when the initializing operation is started by an initializing start member. SOLUTION: A motor 1 moves the optical axis of the right head lamp up and down, and a motor 3 moves the optical axis of the left head lamp up and down. A car height sensor 10 detects the right front wheel position, and a car height sensor 11 detects the car height in the right rear wheel position. A controller 7 enters an initializing standby mode in the case where an ignition switch 12 is ON, a car height initial value memory is clear, a small lamp 13 is ON, the car speed is 0, and both of connectors 15, 16 of right and left optical axis position command signal lines Sig are in the connecting state. After the lapse of designated time since the controller entered the initializing standby mode, in the case where the output of the car height sensors 10, 11 is stable, the output is set to the initial value. A reference pitch angle is operated to determine the reference position of the optical axis, and the optical axes of the right and left head lamps are moved to the reference position.
