PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to achieve excellent display quality without unevenness by providing a cell with a uniform thickness and also sufficient impact resistance. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display element formed by filling a gap between a pair of substrates 10, 20 with a liquid crystal, at least either of which has translucency, at least one substrate 10 of the pair of substrates 10, 20 is provided with cylindrical or wall-like spacers 6 having a uniform height thereon, and an orientation control layer 5a is provided to cover the substrate 10 except the top parts of the spacers 6. Here, the top parts of the spacers 6 are bonded to an orientation control layer 5b on the other substrate 20, and thereby the pair of the substrates 10, 20 are stuck together. |
