PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the turn up at the distal end of a sheath at the time of insertion into a blood vessel, etc., by enclosing the distal end of a protective sheath with a tubular retainer and fixing the same to the distal end of a catheter. SOLUTION: An elastic film layer 10 forming the tubular sheath 20 on a balloon 35 is mounted at the distal end of the catheter 5. This film layer 10 is formed of an arbitrary elastic material having a large linear distortion with respect to a wide range of stress and strain value. The film layer 10 has a proximal end 25 and the distal end 30 and encloses the outer side of the balloon 35 of the balloon catheter 5. The tubular sheath 20 is adhered to the catheter 5 at a point 45 near the proximal end 25 on a catheter shaft or external member 50. The distal end 30 of the tubular sheath 20 is not mounted at the balloon 35 or the external member 50 and is positioned at the distal end 30 by providing a retainer 70. As a result, the turn up at the distal end of the sheath 20 at the time of insertion is prevented and the passage of expanded fluid in case of a balloon rupture is made possible. |
