PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a high performance filter in which particles constituting a film is coagulated in a proper size to prevent the particles constituting the film from entering into a supporting body and small size particles constituting the film do not enter into the supporting body even if a pore diameter of the supporting body is relatively large in this way by forming a coating layer with a slurry in which a coagulating agent is added to ceramic particles having smaller particle size than the pore diameter of the porous supporting body on the surface of the porous supporting body. SOLUTION: In the producing method for the ceramic filter in which the porous thin film is formed on the surface of the ceramic porous supporting body, the coating layer is formed on the surface of the ceramic porous supporting body with the slurry obtained by adding the ceramic particles having the diameter smaller than the pore diameter of the porous supporting body and the coagulating agent to water or an aq. soln. containing a water soluble org. matter, then the layer is dried and burned. In such a case, a thickener and a crack retarder for the thin film are added. An average pore diameter of the porous supporting body is 5-15μm and an average diameter of the ceramic particles is 0.5-3μm.
