<p>The invention concerns an apparatus equipped with a message transmitter-receiver (22-23) capable of two-way communication with a central database under the control of a processor (14) to request and obtain data. Messages are received in the form of a series of reference numbers and, for each of them, the processor is supposed to find in its local database intelligible data corresponding to the reference number; but the local database contains a limited amount of data such that, for some reference numbers, the corresponding intelligible data is not present in the memory unit; the processor then initiates a dialogue, using the transmitter-receiver (22-23), between itself and the central database, so as to obtain the missing element, corresponding to the reference number. The invention is applicable to all compressed data transmission systems.</p> |
