PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin foam which is almost free from irregularities in thickness precision and weight precision and has high shock- absorbing properties and compression strength and further, a low level of scattering of strength as well as a method for manufacturing the thermoplastic resin foam at a high productivity. SOLUTION: This thermoplastic resin foam 1 of a plate-like body comprises a continuous cell layer 2 formed of a thermoplastic sin, high-level foamed parts 3 formed of thermoplastic resin arranged on at least, one of the faces of the continuous cell layer 2 and low-level foamed thin coats 4 formed of the thermoplastic resin coating the outer faces of the high-level foamed parts 3 together with the continuous cell layer 2. In this case, when the foam 1 is projected onto a plane of projection which is orthogonal with the thickness direction, the projection is composed of a continuous area onto which only the continuous cell layer 2 is projected and a discontinuous area onto which the continuous cell layer 2, the low-level foamed thin coats 4 and the high-level foamed parts 3 are projected. Further, the region of the foam 1 corresponding to the discontinuous area is formed into a projecting shape with respect to the region of the foam 1 corresponding to the continuous area at least on one surface. |
