PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a length from extending in an axial direction of an engine. SOLUTION: A timing advance operating oil exceeds an annular advance oil passage 53 of a cam shaft 50 from an oil control valve 90 through an oil passage 71 in a cylinder head, a groove of a cam cap 80, an inclining oil passage, and a hole of an upper side bearing metal 60A, and it is distributed to each advance oil chamber through an oil passage of the cam shaft 50 and an oil passage in a rotor 40 connected to the cam shaft 50. Lag operating oil exceeds an annular lag oil passage 54 of the cam shaft 50 from the oil control valve 90 through an oil passage 72 in the cylinder head, an oil passage 79 formed between a groove having a crescent-shaped cross section and a back surface of a lower side bearing metal 60B, and a cutout 62, and it is distributed to each lag oil chamber through an oil passage 56 in the cam shaft 50, and an oil passage 12 in a gear 10 formed between the cam shaft 50 and the rotor 40.
