[Class 111] A process for the purification of waste aqueous liquids containing phenols comprises removing the major part of the phenols by extraction or by treatment with substances capable of absorbing phenols, then aerating the liquid and finally subjecting it to a biological purification with a trickling filter. As an example, phenols from waste liquid are extracted by means of tricresyl phosphate, the liquid is then diluted and treated with phosphoric acid, and afterwards subjected to aeration in a tower. The liquid is next pumped into a trickling filter in which there is a countercurrent of air.</p> |
