<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing pentafluoropentanol according to an industrially advantageous manner without requiring an expensive catalyst. SOLUTION: 4,4,5,5,5-Pentafluoro-1-pentanol is produced from a perfluoroethyl iodide. In the process, the perfluoroethyl iodide is initially added to allyl alcohol in the presence of a radical initiator without possessing any acyl group and the hydrogenolysis dehalogenation of the resultantly produced 4,4,5,5,5- pentafluoro-2-iodo-1-pentanol is then carried out in the presence of a catalyst, an acid binder and a diluent. For example, the radical initiator without possessing any acyl group is a dithionous salt/a bicarbonic salt mixture, di-t- butyl peroxide or 2,2-azo-bis-isobutyronitrile (AIBN) or light, e.g. the light of a high-pressure mercury arc lamp or a tungsten filament lamp.</p> |
