PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alicyclic compound by which the objective high-purity alicyclic compound can be produced in high yield. SOLUTION:α-Methylstyrenes are dropped into an organic solvent containing an acid so as to provide 0.0005-0.1 molar ratio of the acid to theα- methylstyrenes. Thereby, theα-methylstyrenes are trimerized at -15 to +30 deg.C reactional temperature to afford the trimer of theα-methylstyrenes. The hydrogenation of the aromatic rings in the resultant trimer of theα-methylstyrenes is further carried out to provide an alicyclic compound represented by the general formula [R<1> , R<2> and R<3> denote each independently a 1-4C alkyl group and R<1> , R<2> and R<3> may be same or different; (p) and (r) are each independently an integer of 0-5; (q) is an integer of 0-4].
