摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and quickly grasp an abnormal state occurring in an image pickup means. SOLUTION: Two cameras 1a and 1b are placed against a road LD, and the images which are photographed by these cameras are fetched by a controller 2. Then the vehicles running on the road LD are three-dimensionally recognized. In such a constitution of an observation device, the controller 2 extracts the feature variables such as the average luminance value, etc., of the images which are inputted from both cameras 1a and 1b and compares the difference value between the extraction results of both images with the prescribed threshold. If the difference value is smaller than the threshold, every input image is decided as the proper one and three-dimensionally recognized. If the difference value is larger than the threshold, the controller 2 judges that an abnormality occurred in either one of the cameras to discontinue the three-dimensional recognition of input images and also reports the abnormality to the outside by an alarm, etc.
