Disclosed is a connecting device to plug in a male plug (5) and a female plug (1), more particularly, automatic couplings of rail vehicles. Said device is characterized in that at least one flexibly prestressed intermediate element (2) is mounted on the male or female plug in such a way that it locks the male and the female plugs (5, 1) with spring tension when said plugs (5, 1) are joined, wherein the electrical connection between the male and the female plugs (5, 1) is made by the intermediate element. Preferably, the flexibly mounted intermediate element is configured as a jack (2).
