The electric braking system (10-21) is for a road vehicle. It has at least two different voltage supply levels and at least two separate electrically operated braking systems. Each braking system is supplied via a dedicated battery, charged by the supply circuit and with one braking system operating at a much higher voltage than the other one, e.g. three times the other voltage. This provides an enhanced braking effort e.g. for the front wheels. The batteries can be coupled to capacitors to cover peak current demands and each system is fitted with a low voltage warning indicator.
