The gas distribution system has a pipe assembly connected to a gas supply (5, 7) and to an output pipe (10, 10A) so as to feed the gas to a work unit (10B) which has operating parts (25) such as valves (27, 29) arranged around the pipes (15, 21, 23). These valves are used to regulate the gas flow in the pipes. The gas distribution system has also gas leak sensors (34) and a command/control unit. The command/control unit includes means for communicating with the operating parts and means for control of tasks relative to the operating parts as well as means for driving a control unit actuated by an operator of the gas distribution system (9A). The operating unit (45) includes a tactile screen (47) having principal control zones (60 to 68) associated with corresponding control tasks. The control zones contain graphic symbols (51 to 58) which are associated with the tasks to be performed and are permanently displaced on the tactile screen.
