PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new derivative for additives, etc., for lubricating oils, capable of providing a lubricating oil composition satisfying extreme- pressure property, abrasion resistance and friction characteristics even under high load conditions by reacting an alkylthioalkyl alcohol with phosphorus trichloride. SOLUTION: This compound is at least one new phosphite derivative selected from a compound represented by formula I [R<1> is a 6-20C hydrocarbon group; R<2> is a 1-6C divalent hydrocarbon group; (n) is an integer of 1-3] and a compound represented by formula II [(p) is an integer of 0-2; (q) is 0 or 1; (p) and (q) are not simultaneously 0] and is useful as an additive, etc., for lubricating oil providing a lubricating oil composition capable of satisfying extreme-pressure property, abrasion resistance and friction characteristics. The compound is obtained by reacting an alkylthioalkyl alcohol represented by formula III with phosphorus trichloride without catalyst or in the presence of a base. |
