PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method by which a very thin solid active carbon electrode can stably be manufactured. SOLUTION: In the stage 3 for tape forming, a slurry contg. powdery active carbon, a water-insoluble powdery thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin, water and a waster-soluble forming binder is continuously formed into a tape- like body by using a doctor blade method. Since a tape-like body having a very thin thickness can be formed by the doctor blade method, in the stage 7 for heat treatment, by subjecting a formed body obtained from the tape-like body through stages 4 to 6, to heat treatment in a gaseous N2 atmosphere, the phenolic resin in the above slurry is carbonized to form a very thin active carbon electrode having an about 0.1 to 1.5 mm thickness. At this time, the water-insoluble powdery phenolic resin is almost uniformly dispersed in the slurry and therefore, the formed body contains the phenolic resin being in a highly dispersed state. Thus, the objective very thin active carbon electrode having an almost uniform structure can be stably manufactured. |
