PURPOSE:To obtain a gelling agent for body fluids which neither get spilt nor raise dusts during handling and is easy to handle and improved in efficiency by covering a water-absorbing material comprising a powdery or granular water-absorbing resin with a water-disintegrable paper. CONSTITUTION:A gelling agent for body fluids in which a waterabsorbing material comprising a powdery or granular water-absorbing resin is covered with a water-disintegrable paper. The waterabsorbing resin may, for example, include one obtained by polymerizing starch or cellulose, a water-soluble monomer and/or monomer capable of being rendered water-soluble by hydrolysis, which contains a carboxyl group and/or sulfonic acid group, and a crosslinking agent and, if necessary, hydrolyzing the resulting polymer. The water- disintegrable paper used for the covering may, for instance, include a paper formed by joining fibers of a paper pulp with each other by means of a water- soluble or hydrophilic paste, a water-swelling polymer, etc., so that the pulp fibers themselves may be disintegrated into pieces when brought into contact with water. |
