The system for on-board charging of the batteries of an electrical vehicle has a rectifier circuit (3) that is coupled to a voltage converter (4) and a chopper circuit (5). A transformer (7) has the secondary winding (9) coupled via a diode (10) and capacitor (11) smoothing circuit to the vehicle battery via a switching stage (12) that effects changeover to the charging mode. A further secondary winding (8) is coupled to the converter.
